That’s a Wrap – Introducing Miss World Canada 2013

Congratulations to Camille Munro of Saskatchewan for winning the prestigious title of the 2013 Miss World Canada – Beauty with a Purpose pageant! I’ve been on many movie and TV sets but when this pageant called a wrap it was the happiest day of my life! I’ve worked on sets where we work 15 hour days but the work that goes into a beauty pageant surpasses any set I’ve ever worked on. Needless to say I slept for 14 hours last night; there could have been a wild party in the room and it would not have phased me one bit. For those that don’t know what my involvement with the pageant was, my main role was business development and it was definitely not limited to. At one point I thought about doing some filming with my iPhone to capture moments that were reality TV worthy, this is not just a show production but a business, philanthropy, charity. As with anything, people that judge without being educated on things are really missing out on the whole purpose of what people are trying to convey. If you know me, anything and everything I do always has some kind of philanthropic aspect to it.

Miss World Canada is the official Canadian preliminary to the internationally renowned Miss World pageant. The Miss World pageant is unlike any other; its focus is on humanitarianism and philanthropy. Contestants become world ambassadors. As ambassadors, they set a powerful example for our youthful audience about how to donate their time and energy to good causes. Our Canadian partner is Variety – The Children’s Charity. Together, Miss World® Canada and Variety improve the lives of underprivileged children with special needs. Four months prior to the pageant date, all contestants across the country are marching, either in the rain or snow, determined to bring hope to the children’s of Variety, children with special needs by raising funds. I am so happy to be part of the making a difference in the world and making it possible for our beautiful and talented ladies of the future to be part of such an amazing family.

The show was a great success and as with anything, every year gets better and better because practice makes perfect. What people need to remember is that the main focus of the event is about humanitarianism and philanthropy and to support these girls in helping raise money for Variety – the Children’s Charity. This event would not be made possible if it weren’t for the hard work, belief and dedication from every single person who participated by volunteering, sponsoring or donating and to them a huge and special thank you (if I were to make a list it would go on and on and on). You all played a very integral part of the event even months and months prior (Siddhartha’s Kitchen and Vancouver Trolley you guys really came through for us and we are much in debt to you, thank you, thank YOU, THANK YOU). A special, heartfelt thank you goes out to the Chairman, Mr. Ike Lalji, who has taken on a huge responsibility taking over the pageant for his second year in a row and who has one of the biggest hearts that just gives and gives. I have been so honoured to work with him and get to become really good friends. As well, my side kicks, Lineth Hizon and Katya Pokrovskaya, our project coordinators, who were my diamonds in the sky and stayed up with me until sometimes even 4 am working and preparing for last minute material that needed to get done. So much love to these young ladies, Lineth is currently running for the Miss Canada Perfect’s pageant in Toronto August 23 – 25th 2013. And after the work that Katya has put into the pageant and what goes behind the scene I am really hoping that she goes for the Miss World Canada pageant. Last, but not least, one of the board of directors, Sean Lalji. After working together for the first time last year we have become close friends and I have his parents to thank for having a son that has turned out to be the perfect gentleman. Partners in crime for sure. If it weren’t for Sean I don’t know what we would have done without him. I am still laughing at being up until 5:30 am the night before working and saying that if we slept in we would just not show up!!!

It was just one of those weeks for sure where we were all only getting 3 – 4 hours sleep max every night. Imagine all the contestants, waking up at 6 am everyday for rehearsal, interviews, training, more rehearsals, then events and keeping that smile on their faces because they all know what it’s for. So before you judge anything based on a price of a ticket, please look into what goes on behind the scenes. I don’t work this hard for anyone else other than for the girls and the children; I don’t even care if my name is associated with Miss World Canada but all I know is that my work is done for 2013 and it is a clean slate for 2014, like elves, we start again after one cheers. We hope you enjoyed the show and that you will be part of it next year. We thank YOU most of all for the love and support. In the end, without you we wouldn’t have been able to make any of this possible for the girls or children. If you are interested in sponsorship for this amazing pageant please email me at And that’s wrap!

Sending you so many blessings,

Mr. Ike Lalji, Chairman, Ms. Tara Teng, Miss World Canada 2012 Variety Behind the scenes
